Story

"There's a long road ahead, so choose a beautiful one" - Corbett Barr

I am excited for the opportunity to ride through the stunning scenery of the southern island of beautiful Aotearoa in support of World Vision. Most weekends you can find me on the rural roads of Auckland, clocking up my spins and my daily cycle ride is my exercise of choice. As a busy preschool teacher I need all the energy I can get - and cycling helps me to maintain this!!

I am doing this event as an individual however I am representing my Footsteps Preschool whanau made up of over 70 active preschoolers and their families, 9 dedicated staff and 3 fluffy Guinea Pigs! I wish I could convince a few of them to join me! (Keryn!!!!)

In addition to my fundraising efforts, our whole preschool will be raising money to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

Having spent time overseas and having a husband who works a lot in developing countries, I have seen first hand the needs and impact that agencies like World Vision are having. Living in a country like New Zealand we are abundantly blessed and it is a privilege to use our resources of time, energy and money to pass on this blessing in whatever way we can.

Thank you in advance for your genoristy. I know you will be abundantly blessed because of your gift.

Check out my training tips, progress and photos below... Note: No children or Guinea Pigs were harmed in the making.

1. Always go with the flow and travel in the RIGHT direction!

2. Kit yourself out with comfy (but styley of course) riding gear.

3. Ensure your bike is just the right size for you.

4. Only carry what (or who) you need to. It's a long ride and the less to weigh you down the better!

5. Have a great support crew. This will keep you going even when your legs say STOP!

Wish me luck!

World Vision of New Zealand

For more than 60 years World Vision has been serving those living in extreme poverty around the world as an expression of the church. We passionately believe our faith should make a difference in the world around us. Living our lives in such a way that a watching world would catch a glimpse of God’s character – His love, justice, and mercy for those in desperate need.

We would love to join with you in connecting a passion for cycling with a deep commitment to making a difference in our world. All money raised will be going towards the incredible work happening in Gulu, Northern Uganda to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of formerly abducted persons by Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).

The harrowing crimes that the LRA commit against the children they abduct are some of the worst on the planet. These children, who are now young adults remain some of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of society, requiring medical attention and comprehensive psychological support as they resettle back into their communities.

Join Team World Vision and let's continue to be the change we want to see in the world around us!
